How to Hit the Rocket Boost on Your Hires: A Modern Take

Should I hire the 4-year college grad or the high school dropout?

Across decades of history, you’d be laughed out of the room for asking that kind of question.

But now, it’s a little more complex. But WHY?

Because in a world where scale is a button click away, our most valuable employees are no longer producing, but thinking at extremely high levels.

Your ideas and your taste frame your value. For better or worse, producing those ideas end up being a small fraction of your contributions to society today.

Hire the Person, Not the Productivity

There’s always been an understanding that you should hire the person over the title, but that was even before the person had the entire internet at their fingertips.

If I could quintuple-down on the idea, I would. Anybody can scale their ideas and taste quickly, so aligning the person to your overall direction is an absolute cheat code.

If every company’s employee’s end goals are to sell their desks and focus all attention on building relationships (like it SHOULD be), then just imagine a world where everyone’s instinct is the exact same.

If you can accurately formalize and hire around your company’s mission and values, all AI and human brains would be pointed at exactly the same goal.

Your scale would be untouchable.
