Should AI be replacing your templates, and what will that do to brand consistency?
What trips a lot of people up is thinking, “well hey I can just use AI and throw out all my templates. Everything across my websites and social media pages will be customized!”
But what people WANT is better personalization WITHIN their brand.
So how do you get to that point?
Formalize Your Brand Guidelines (with Examples)
Paid Media platforms with hundreds of millions of dollars running through them each month are now requiring one new thing from every single advertiser: Brand Guidelines.
The reason being, AI-generated content has become so prevalent, so mainstream and accepted that it’s assumed that it’ll get used at least at some point.
Your brand guidelines are characterized by 2 major elements that are true of everything you create: brand colors, and brand font.
Typically, this looks like a color palette of 3-5 colors, then 1-3 brand fonts (sometimes based on formatting structure of the document or webpage).
I would also add a third element in 2026, which is a short style description for visual content (examples include “anime style” or “photorealistic/cinematic style”).
When you have established brand guidelines, you can then ensure consistency in AI assets that is impossible otherwise.
Where to Use AI in Content
AI is used to customize information so it’s delivery is strong- that’s a good thing!
Once you’ve created the idea yourself and really can visualize what should be produced, AI canbe used in a few key places straight away:
- Visualizations & Infographics: these are static images that AI excels at, and the infographics you’ve probably used in the past will still sit on the boundaries of your brand guidelines anyway.
- Video content: You can absolutely let AI take big swings here. Your video is uniquely tailored to customers, and you should still have pieces of your video that are actual shoots from your team, but supplementing transitions/supporting shots with AI will be valuable.
- Image content: This is the easiest place to go overboard, but if you’re creating images for the purpose of providing information, it can be helpful. People demonstrating your product, even if created by AI, is more valuable than a random Pexels image tied to your social media post.
- Editing: It may be surprising, but having AI fill in gaps for an existing creative that you love can be one of the best use cases. Set up transitions for your video, blur out something in your image, overlay your logo… all excellent uses of AI!

Supplementing AI Content with Brand Templates
Watch out, because if you’ve gotten this far we’re on expert mode now. You can and should actually blend templates into your AI-generated content as well.
Here are some examples:
- Use AI to create a relevant podcast thumbnail image, but overlay a graphic with the name of the podcast and the title beneath.
- Use AI to create an informative video on YouTube, but use your typical intro and outro templates to bookend (reminder to match video styles here!)
- Create and write a blog post based on a standard outline, but use AI to identify and cite sources to improve the post.
The world will soon fall into 3 classes of people:
- Those who use AI exclusively and lose their connections to customers
- Those who reject AI completely and overwork themselves out of their business
- Those who blend the two to make their lives easier while maximizing their time establishing and building human connection.
The bucket you fall into directly correlates to how good you are at identifying where people want actual connection and where people want information.
People should own connection, but AI should own information.

Personally, I get excited about transforming businesses with tools like these. But, as you know, it’s not a one-size-fits-all.
Your business processes and needs are exclusive to you. And AI doesn’t always have the best track record for quality and accuracy. Giving the keys to your business to this kind of technology can be daunting.
And that’s okay! Leaning into things that are daunting is part of leadership, and so is pulling in trusted resources to help you navigate new waters.
That’s where my big brother and I come in.
